Hi Tahoe-LAFS,

I am working on development of witcoin.com site and will soon begin working on an implementation to allow users to include one or more charities in distribution of funds during activities that have a cost.

Firstly, a brief explanation of the site:

witcoin is a user-generated content site that allows users to post content, reply to content and upvote content. Each of those actions have a cost associated with them. The cost of the actions are distributed.

As a user makes a post that costs 0.01 witcoins (1 witcoin == 1 bitcoin, so also 0.01 bitcoins), that amount will be distributed equally to site (dev/design team for the site) and the category renter. Therefore each of these two entities will get 0.005 witcoins (to be further distributed in the case of site)

As a user replies to a post that costs 0.01 witcoins, that amount will also be distributed equally to site and the category renter.

As a user upvotes a post at a cost of 0.01 witcoins and is the first upvoter, that amount will be distributed equally to site, category renter and poster.
As a user upvotes a reply at a cost of 0.01 witcoins and is the first
upvoter, that amount will be distributed equally to site, category
renter and replier.
As a user upvotes a post or reply at a cost of 0.01 witcoins and there are prior upvoters, that amount will be distributed equally to site, category renter and poster or replier and all previous upvoters.

That is the fundamental strategy used for witcoin.

Soon I would like to integrate charity integration where charities can establish a presence on the site and users can opt to associate one or more charities to be included in the distribution of profits from their actions.

So, for example, if a user selects Tahoe-LAFS to be included, then if they post content which costs 0.01 witcoins, then that cost will be distributed equally to site, category renter and Tahoe-LAFS. Thus, Tahoe-LAFS will receive 0.00333333... witcoins.
Also example, if a user selects Tahoe-LAFS and one other charity to be included, then if they upvote to a reply which costs 0.01 witcoins, then that cost will be distributed equally to site, category renter, replier, all previous upvoters (if any), Tahoe-LAFS and the other charity organization. Therefore, if that was the first upvote, Tahoe-LAFS would receive 0.01 / 5 or 0.002 witcoins. If that was the 6th upvote, then Tahoe-LAFS would receive 0.01 / 10 or 0.001 witcoins.

Ultimately, my idea for implementing integration of charity donations is to help support various organizations that participate in the site as well as to help promote the site, which in turn may help to establish more donations.

I haven't begun working on the implementation yet. First I would like some feedback from others on their thoughts. Also, if you have any questions that may not be suitable for the mailing list, feel free to ask in Freenode #witcoin.
