fwiw, I'm using the macports build of python and it's working ok

the biggest problem I had was the cryptopp in macports being too old
I downloaded and installed from the latest source, which worked.

I also had to make sure to remove various tahoe dependencies from my
system's site-packages, so that tahoe would use its own builds thereof.
