Folks:

At PyCon, I was excited find out that Tahoe has become a commonly-
known project within the Python community. For example, it would
come up casually in conversation between two people that I didn't know.

Brian persuaded me that it is valuable to "release early, release
often". What is currently in trunk has substantial improvements over
tahoe-1.3.0. I mentioned some of those features that are already
there in my previous mail:

http://allmydata.org/pipermail/tahoe-dev/2009-March/001381.html

Since then, Brian committed garbage collection and, yesterday, an
important optimization in processing the Merkle Tree for download of
really big files (multi-GB).

I'd like to put out a stable release of Tahoe tomorrow, Friday, March
3. Before then we should try to make sure that there are no
regressions in which trunk has a bug that 1.3.0 didn't.

Let's call it "1.4.0" instead of "1.3.1" in honor of the important
new garbage collection feature.

There are several tickets that I still want someone to look at before
we tag the 1.4.0 release, because they might indicate a regression or
an "unable to install on my platform". See The Roadmap for a
complete list: http://allmydata.org/trac/tahoe/roadmap .

Please jump in and test current trunk or examine the bugs listed on
the Roadmap!

Thanks!

Zooko
