This is #534 and #734.

The status is that François did a lot of work on the unicode patches,  
I did one round of very basic reviews which turned up a few issues,  
then I stopped spending time on that in order to focus on the v1.5  
release and nobody else volunteered to do reviews.

I would like to prioritize this issue now that v1.5 is out.  I have a  
few ideas about what I want next from Tahoe-LAFS, some which are  
about making other people happy.  I want to make Brian have more fun  
by giving him elliptic curve crypto tools (#217), and I want to make  
François have more fun by giving him code reviews (or finding another  
volunteer else who will).  I also want to get Tahoe-LAFS included in  
operating systems like Debian, FreeBSD, etc., and I also want to work  
on forward-compatibility issues like #731. I've been trying to think  
of ways to implement forward-compatibility which will make the  
transition to new file formats and crypto algorithms as painless as  
possible.

Of course, I've probably just named more things that I can reasonably  
finish in a "v1.6" time frame, unless some other people volunteer to  
take primary responsibility for some of these.

Whoo!  This'll be fun!  :-)

Oh, and of course I'll want to support various people who are  
building on top of Tahoe-LAFS.  A recent addition to that category is  
Aaron Cordova who has implemented but not announced a plugin for  
Haddoop MapReduce so that it can do its MapReduce magic on data  
stored in Tahoe-LAFS.  Very cool!
