Take a look at docs/frontends/FTP-and-SFTP.txt and see if that answers
your questions. The executive summary is that we've got both, but FTP
requires a patch to Twisted.

Also take a look at the buglist:

There are a handful of FTP/SFTP-specific ones there.. I recall one about
unicode handling in particular.
