[tahoe-dev] Fwd: [Noisebridge-announce] Diaspora hack session Saturday

Hi Tahoe Hackers.

It's been a long time dream of mine to decentralize social networks so
that individual users' intuitions about their friendship topology map
as directly as possible to network/privacy topology. Diaspora is the
new poster child for such efforts.

This Saturday at 1pm at Noisebridge in San Francisco, I'll be showing
up to a Diaspora hackfest to learn about Diaspora's design and see
if/how Tahoe-LAFS can improve Diaspora.

Without careful study, I expect Diaspora has a decentralized
introduction system (if not, it needs one!) yet Tahoe-LAFS does not.
So my area of focus for both projects will be understanding how
distributed introduction works or might work in both systems, to
notice architecture mismatches, and to hunt for improvements to those
architecture problems.

Are there any Bay Area Tahoe-LAFS hackers who'd like to join?

Regards,
Nathan Wilcox

ps: I'm interested in the idea of a rich-client distributed social app
that uses a vanilla Tahoe-LAFS wapi as a backend and browser-side
javascript for all application logic. IMO this would be nimble than a
tahoe+diaspora install. On the other hand, Diaspora already exists.

Diaspora is a open source distributed social network with the goal of
freeing us from having to give up control of our personal data. It is
written in Ruby and has been funded by a wildly successful kickstarter
project; now that they have there initial release done they are
looking to the community to help build out project in to a tool we can
all use to replace the walled gardens of facebook and it's rivals.

I have been asked by Ilya of the Diaspora teem to help them set up a
hack session at noisebrige this Saturday. Come join us and lend a hand
or just check out the progress they have made.

Hope you to see you there.

-Jonathan
