then arrives the discussion about encryption speed and hardware.
we want to get a quite fast backup in tahoe of 50 to 100 gb of data.
when on the global network, the bottleneck is the adsl conection between
the nodes
and for some reason i am still working on i was not able to get a complete
'tahoe backup'
while making the test for 'tahoe backup' on local network machines
or with 2 nodes in the same machine.
the speed is mainly driven by the computing capacity of the machine
(the first idea was to use old computers ike recycled celeron D or pentium
4 got for free from companies
but this idea just achieved a fail in terms of speed)
I have very different results from 200kByte/s to 5 mByte/s
it is not that fast on a core i5 650
it is much beter on core i5 3440
15 GByte of data in 8 hours (2 nodes in same machine)
we do have some other test to be running
we are thinking about the good choice of a processor to make fast
encryption at good price.
does anyone made any experience / recommendation ?
amd are cheap in europe, have good results for multi thread applications
but are not that good for monothread ones.
shall we go for an amd or other equivalent intel processors that are more
expensive
