 Here is a patch that Brian and I worked on at !PyCon to do tests of
 boundary conditions in mutable filenode {{{update()}}}. I think the
 boundary conditions are not thoroughly exhausted by these tests and Brian
 and I were thinking about other boundary conditions to test, but at the
 moment I don't remember what they were. Maybe they had to do with whether
 the end of the *new* file fell on or near a segment boundary and whether
 the end of the *old* file fell on or near a segment boundary.

 This also contains a whole bunch of incomplete hacks, debug printouts, and
 "notes to self". I intend to clean this up later tonight or tomorrow, but
 just in case someone else wants it, here it is.
