 I concur that this is reviewed.  davidsarah answered the question about
 the {{{_local_path}}} race condition in IRC: The inotify interface will
 not indicate if the target directory does not exist.

 It still may be possible to remove the race condition by calling
 {{{isdir()}}} after the call to {{{watch()}}} but this detail does not
 seem important enough to prevent inclusion.
