 While not as bad as memory footprint during publish (#1513), the memory
 usage during retrieval of a large (200MB) mutable file still leaves
 something to be desired. I watch the process grow from 100MB RSS idle
 (this is on a 64-bit Mac) to almost 300MB as the download proceeded. Once
 it finished, memory dropped back down to 100MB.
