 Let me say that the comments are really helpful in understanding this
 patch (in particular what bugs/issues are being worked around; it'd be
 impossible to figure it out otherwise).

 I went through the code (particularly the Win32 portions) and was unable
 to find anything blatantly wrong with it. It seems to be working, too.
