 OK, so:
  - we still have cases where a disconnected rref is causing errors due to
 trying to call {{{None}}}. Wasn't there a previous ticket about that?
  - the unhandled exception is causing an infinite deferred loop. Let's fix
 that separately, even if we change this particular case to be handled.
