New description:

 There is support for HTTP ETags on immutable files in the current webapi
 code ~~, although it isn't entirely clear that this is working as intended
 (see #443)~~. However ETags are not supported for mutable files or
 directories. According to #443, the ETag for a mutable file/directory
 should be set to the current roothash value.

 If you like this ticket, you might also like #413 (mutable files: expose
 version info to HTTP clients?).
