 Since ticket #850, tahoe backup completely ignores symlinks.

 This is too bad, since my favorite usecase is to have a dedicated
 "backups" folder, where I can place symlinks to files and directories that
 I want backed up (such as ~/.xchat2/xchatlogs, ~/.bitcoin/wallet.dat,
 ~/research/papers, etc.)

 For the past year or so I've been using the following patch, and it's
 worked fine. The basic idea is to traverse up to some constant number
 (e.g., 3) of symlinks. This is a useful compromise.
