Comment (by davidsarah):

 The vector clock algorithm is designed to ensure causal ordering (assuming
 cooperative peers) in a general peer-to-peer message passing system. It's
 inefficient and overcomplicated for this case, and the assumptions it
 relies on aren't met in any case.
