Comment:

 Cognitive complexity is a real issue, however I think erasure coding
 parameters are already complex enough that 3 more optional parameters
 instead of just 3 seems to be only slightly more complex.  I would
 definitely use this, I'd set dircaps to (say) 1-of-4 while other files are
 2-of-4 or 3-of-4
