 Yes, I believe the new behavior is okay. The real question should be: does
 it match the specification? Well, what is the specification? Could you
 please make sure it is written in a precise and succinct form in a .rst
 file under source:docs/ ? (It can refer to Kevan's thesis, but the reader
 should be able to tell exactly what the specification is without reading
 Kevan's thesis.)

 I'm pretty sure that the result you show in comment:22 does meet the spec.
