Comment:

 I've agreed (OMG what have I gotten myself into) to try to understand this
 patch, the math behind it, and try to review it and/or rearrange it into
 smaller pieces that other folks can help review. We still think of this as
 a blocker for 1.11 (it's kind of the showcase feature), but it's likely to
 push the release out way past our target. Oh well.
