Oh, I almost forgot to mention your observation about the "tahoe  
stats" command giving inconsistent results.  This is why issue  
trackers are so helpful -- they help us to not forget things.  Please  
open a ticket at http://allmydata.org and cut and paste the part of  
your message which describes the "tahoe stats" command giving  
inconsistent results.
