 ooh, it looks like 'schroot' is what I want: it can be configured to
 create a chroot environment from a tarball (i.e. a pre-generated gutsy
 base system) and then run some number of commands inside it. It also looks
 like, once configured, it can be invoked by (controlled) non-root users,
 which would be ideal for the buildslave.
