[tahoe-dev] where has all my disk space gone

[ i ain't saying this was tahoe-tafs, but it's the only new thing on this
  laptop.  so color me suspicious ]

macbook pro, 10.6.4, blah bah
tahoe-tafs 1.7.0 built straight from allmydata-tahoe-1.7.0.zip

i run it as a client to the test grid, [storage] enabled = false
i play a bit, delete file i created, and `tahoe stop`
i get two storage servers up so change to their furl
lookin' good!
i go to sleep

i wake up and my laptop is whining about no disk left, when it should
have about 100g.  
i kill tahoe client, no gain
i look for big data, no find
i reboot
disk space now 102g

anyone seen anything like this?
any suggestions on how to debug if i see it again?
