Here is the list of the current version requirements for Tahoe-LAFS's
immediate dependencies:

It says Tahoe-LAFS (current trunk) requires zfec >= 1.1.0 and foolscap >= 0.6.1.
So the first thing that someone could do to help would be to upgrade
the foolscap in Debian to the latest stable release of foolscap
(v0.6.1).
