Yes, either this way, or having a more global --debian (or
--whateveryouwant) option that would simplify the command line and
configuration. This is open to discussion and was the subject of my mail :
how would you prefer this to be implemented in tahoe?

You're right, in fact I already more or less did it when I created the
init script (which I still don't know the place where I could put in the
sources).
