 my main problem with [4965]/ticket1306 is that it involved what looked
 like a signficant refactoring of {{{_auto_deps.py}}}, so I couldn't apply
 just a single patch (there were more like six). But if there's a clean way
 to use that approach, I'm happy to go with it.

 The clock is ticking, though :)
