 and I've confirmed that the `16 03 01 00 e0 01 00 00 dc 03 03 22 71`
 sequence (in the "cruft") is a !ClientHello: the `16` means "Handshake",
 `03 01` is TLS-1.0, `00 e0` is a packet length, `01` is !ClientHello`,
 then `00 00 dc` is handshake length (all according to the
 [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Layer_Security#Handshake_protocol
 wikipedia TLS diagram]).
