Hi guys,

I'm Shawn. I'm a member of the first volunteergrid, and I've also run a
couple of family/friends grids, but I've joined this one because of a
weakness in those grids. I'm hoping that we can make policies on this grid
that will make it better.

Specifically, these are the policies I'd like to discuss and hopefully
implement:

1. Allow storage server capacities to vary by no more than 3x. So if the
smallest node in the grid has 100 GB, the largest should have no more than
300 GB.

2. Require grid members to commit to maintain a minimum of 95% uptime.
That means your node should be unavailable for no more than 8 hours a week,
or 1.5 days per month. I suggest that nodes that prove unable to maintain
that level of uptime be phased out of the grid and replaced with nodes that
can.

3. (This one is trivial) Use a node naming convention that includes the
owner's e-mail address in the node name so it's easy for operators of nodes
that are having trouble to be contacted by others. We could use the mailing
list, but I find a quick personal e-mail is more effective and less
"embarrassing".

Items 1 and 2 need some explanation. To facilitate discussion, I'll give
that explanation in a couple of separate messages.
