[volunteergrid2-l] testing new mailing list and Hello.

Even though last week I said I'd spare 100GB for the grid, I can easily
spare 500GB if that is required for entry.. I've moved some files around
on a 1TB drive I have, so I should have about 500GB allocated for the grid.

By the way, I don't mean to rush into things, but when do we want to start
putting the grid together and requirements for entry? Do we need 20
participants before putting it together or can we start when we have a dozen
or so? I guess starting early could mess with the recommended 7/15/15
ratio we talked about, wouldn't it?

So far, I can agree with most of what has been recommended. It seems that
the people making recommendations have some experience, (and since I haven't
run a grid before), I'll pretty much default to what the "experts"
recommend.. J

Hi,

My name is Steve and this is the second grid of which I have been a part. I
appreciate everyone taking the time to put this together; I look forward to
being a cog in your backup solution! Initially, I have a single 500GB node
available over a DSL connection (ugh). This space was previously available
on another grid that never really got off the ground. At some point (money
has been allocated) I will upgrade this node to increase the space and add
RAID. Additionally, I plan to add some space and a helper on a server I
manage at work; RAID 5, bonded T-1. I think 500GB to be an appropriate
barrier to entry; thanks Shawn for sharing your insight on the problems
associated with significant sizing discrepancies.

I manage IT for a small office during the day; in a past life I was an
Oracle DBA and .NET programmer (go figure). I'm something of a n00b to
Linux, but 95% availability should not be a problem for my node(s).
