[volunteergrid2-l] Should we increase the node minimum capacity?

Agreed.
I thought I'd mentioned that issue in this thread already.
I don't think the price spike is going to last long, but I agree that we
shouldn't expect anyone to buy a new drive until it's past.
I kind of lucked out in a backhanded way... I had a 500 GB drive that was
showing some SMART errors and had suffered a couple of transient failures,
so I just replaced it with a new 2 TB drive. The larger drive also allowed
me to rearrange my storage a bit, so my RAID5 volume group actually grew
from 1.5 TB to 4 TB. So I increased my node capacity to 1 TB and still
have 2 TB of RAID5 that isn't even allocated to any logical volumes.
Aside: RAID5 is fine for a Tahoe node -- RAID0 would be fine -- but I
don't recommend RAID5 for important data unless you know you have good and
reasonably-fast backups. RAID5 has a fatal flaw, IMO, in that if one drive
dies and any other drives are close to having problems the
resynchronization process that must be performed to integrate a replacement
for the failed drive is very likely to cause the almost-failing drive to
kick the bucket, which destroys all your data. My important data is on
RAID6, with a hot spare. And eventually I'd like to get all of it backed
up to VG2, also.
