I think the VG2 grid is right on the edge of being awesome, but we need a
few more nodes to get there. Clearly we need to recruit more people, but
I'm wondering if our approach here isn't putting too many obstacles in
front of the people who do want to join. Specifically, our approach to
controlling access to the introducer information via the wiki.
It's not a bad idea, but the way it works, requiring an existing user to
add an account on behalf of a new user, tends to create a significant
delay, and I think it annoys people. Further, I don't think it's
necessary. We have an access-controlled mailing list here, as long as we
get peoples' commitment to abide by the policies before they join the
mailing list, I don't see any reason why we can't just post the information
here.
I propose that the list admins vet new users by e-mailing them the link to
the wiki and getting their agreement to the policies before approving their
list membership, and that we feel free to post the introducer FURL, etc. on
this list.
