[volunteergrid2-l] Stats gatherer suddenly stopped working

Ah yes, when I said "safely" I should have been more precise that it 
will start fine afterwards, but it removes whatever history happened to 
be in the pickle file. When I was having lease checker problems, I 
didn't mind so much rebuilding the history, but for stats gatherer this 
might be more of a problem. I wonder how the file was truncated in the 
first place?
