 Hm, it might be cleanest to get a new API added to Twisted: maybe a
 `side=` argument to `ITLSTransport.startTLS()`. It would override
 `normal=`, and would explicitly declare the TLS stack to be "client" or
 "server", independent of the underlying transport. Foolscap knows exactly
 which TLS side it's supposed to be, so it could just set it directly.

 I'll see if there are any relevant Twisted tickets on this, and if not
 I'll add one.
