[volunteergrid2-l] tahoe-lafs 1.8.2 released

I'm located in Columbia, MO.
I figured it wouldn't hurt to be proactive.. J If people know that there
could be node issues, that would give people the information to decide if
they wanted to add data to the grid while there are outages.. I believe the
current version of tahoe-lafs doesn't automatically rebalance segments, so
if one or two nodes are down then data can't be stored on those nodes..
But I believe a "deep-check -repair" could possibly fix this, if other
nodes are missing at another time and the number of available segments fall
below a given threshold.
FYI. I'm already using the grid to store a few small files (less than
1MB), just to see how things perform. I've had to reset some of the
settings to upload a file, but as new nodes are added, I'll adjust those
settings.. A deep-check has always come back healthy, so that is good
news.. J

Yesterday the tahoe-lafs group released 1.8.2, which allows for
compatibility with Twisted 10.2, and several bug fixes.. I'll probably
upgrade in a week or two.. :)
I'll probably upgrade later today, or perhaps tomorrow. Our general policy
of delaying a bit doesn't matter right now, since we're still building to
the critical mass of nodes required to make the grid useful.
FYI.. in my area, they are calling for over 1 foot of snow in the next 2
days, and a possibility of down power lines.
Good information! I like the pro-active notification. Let's try to make
that part of the culture here. I don't think we need it for very short-term
outages like restarts, but if you know your node will likely be down for
hours or days, it'd be nice to let people know. I don't think there's
anything we can necessarily do about it, but I still think it's a good idea.
Out of curiosity, where is everyone located? I'm in northern Utah. South
Weber, to be specific. Don't feel obligated to provide your location if you
don't want, but if you don't care I thought it would be interesting.
Actually, in case it's ever useful or you'd just like to chat, I'd like
everyone here to have my phone number. It's 801-721-1631.
