Tahoe-LAFS Tox draftnews and news envs contain some hacks to deal with older versions of towncrier reading its configuration from pyproject.toml. This is no longer necessary, because:

  • Since 19.9.0rc1, Towncrier accepts a --config argument.
  • Since 21.3.0rc1, Towncrier can user towncrier.toml as a default configuration file, and it takes precedence over pyproject.toml.

We could upgrade Towncrier and rename towncrier.pyproject.toml to towncrier.toml.
