The following pages need to be reworked to be geared for beginner users:

Hello exarkun. There may seem like three different documentation tasks but all are pertaining to "installation". I will see that the future tickets I create are more focused and fall in to either 1 or 2 bucket.

Thanks for filing this. It seems like there are at least three different documentation tasks described here. (1) Beginner documentation improvements (2) Developer documentation improvements and (3) Remove obsolete package documentation. Possible (1) and (2) are themselves actually many self-contained tasks.
Can you file one ticket for each self-contained task and then submit one PR per ticket?
