Brian listed a bunch of problems with the Python packaging of Tahoe-LAFS which he encountered while doing Debian packaging of Tahoe-LAFS. To close this ticket, you must open a separate ticket for each discrete, fixable issue that Brian mentioned in that letter.

Brian posted another bunch of complaints at http://tahoe-lafs.org/pipermail/tahoe-dev/2010-October/005415.html .
I'm not convinced that switching to Distribute would help with most of them. Brian has started on a setuptools-free branch (i.e. not using any setuptools fork) -- I'm much more enthused about that approach.

All of my complaints from those two messages are either resolved with our switch to pip/virtualenv, or ticketed elsewhere.
Note that once #668 is resolved, switching to Distribute, this issue may or may not be resolved as a result.
